M855 Green Tip, or M855, uses a bullet weight, which is also made from a partial steel core. This makes it much harder than typical FMJ rounds, which have a lead core wrapped in a copper jacket. To identify the ammo from other rounds, the bullet tips are painted green. Sometimes these are simply referred to as "green tip ammo".
